The crowning jewel of the bioengineered races, as far as the Terrans were concerned, was an unassuming race of blue felines with comical-looking antennae. Small and slender, these cat-people were bred as low-maintenance space colony stock and shipped off to the moon to test their adaptability to barren environs. But the 'mooncats' may have adapted a little too well to suit the Terrans' ambitions - before long they had covered Earth's satellite with an elaborate network of domes, formed a socialistic culture opposed to Terran imperialism, and gotten disturbingly good at space combat.

Lunarians were bred to be polite, civic-minded and responsible, but state-mandated reinforcement with "the flashy lights" didn't hurt. Dissenters were gently exiled to more rambunctious worlds like Mars and Venus. Lunar society was thus a harmonious, leaderless anarcho-communism: citizens were free to act, but felt compelled to behave unselfishly. Lunar culture was modernist to the extreme, with a sentimental attachment to institutional architecture, minimalist art, and artificial colors and flavors. Its fashion blended practicality with feline hedonism -- shiny clean jumpsuits, suited to a busy race with no nudity taboo.
