{{TOC right}}
'''Blazewing Eyrie''' is a residence inhabited by [[User:Elanna|Elanna]], [[User:Indi|Indi]], [[User:Elluim|Elluim]], and [[User:Kauko|Kauko]]

== Paracosmic history ==
The two-story northwestern home of Elanna Blazewing and her flock was formed in 1952 from the ashes of an old Guardian frontier outpost. Elanna, the Guardian of Transmutation, formerly controlled the Glow Den, which was situated a short flight from this location. Citing lack of a proper landing area, Elanna transferred to the much larger, more appropriate Eyrie in 2015, along with her toy and longtime companion Indi Latrani. Indi primarily resides in the Eyrie’s Junction, amongst the pile of other toys. Joining the pair were Elluim, the Neptunian Ambassador, and Kauko, an avian Elanna had previously uplifted from a lesser form, and transplanted from the dreary Bay Realm. Regular visits from Elanna’s lover owl Ally kept the feather ratio at an acceptable level. Together, the five of them formed the Blazewing Flock, and intend to continue to rest and roost within these walls until such time when something even greater calls.

== Amenities ==

* The '''Hearthroom''' (Inside the front entrance) is the main gathering area, with plenty of seating, and a media center. The hearthroom also contains the house altar.
* The '''Junction''' (Upper floor, through the hearthroom and up the stairs to the right) is a chill space designed for relaxing and cuddling. It has plenty of plushies, with glow and music available upon request. Indi is often found here, but the room is available for use by anyone else who needs it during all Eyrie gatherings.
* The '''Dreamatorium''' (Ground floor, through the kitchen, near the back of the house) has books and games, and a large gaming table, available to be used for spontaneous or planned activities.
* '''AV connections and the media library''' are available in all the above public rooms.
* The '''bathroom''' is past the Hearthroom and to the right, through the door at the end of the very short hall.

== Behavior and content policies ==

The Eyrie is intended to be a comfortable place for all members of the community. Clothing is optional and sexual activity may occur in public areas. Food, alcohol, and non-combusting psychoactives (including vaporizers) may be consumed in any public rooms. Anything that produces smoke should be consumed outside or in specifically-designated areas.

Given that different people have different comfort levels (concerning sexual activity, media content, sensory sensitivities, drug use, or anything else), every Eyrie gathering will keep multiple public spaces available and populated so that anyone who needs to can find one that they are comfortable in. Anyone at any gathering should feel free to move from a room if they are uncomfortable with what's going on there, and everyone is expected to respect the needs of others to find a comfortable place. If you find yourself in a situation where there does not seem to be any space available in which you can be comfortable, inform Elanna (if she is available) or Indi (only if Elanna is not present) and they will help resolve the situation.

The Junction is the only public space with a door. The Junction door will usually be closed during gatherings to help keep noise levels down in that room. The Junction is publicly accessible even if the door is closed, unless the door sign specifies otherwise. All other rooms should be considered occupied and unavailable if the door is closed. This includes the bathroom; please leave the bathroom door open when the room is not in use.

Any food, alcohol and psychoactives that are set out in public areas are considered freely available for responsible shared use by anyone. This includes the alcohol in the liquor cabinet. Any provided consumables that are home-made or not in their original packaging should be labelled giving information on any of the following:
* Psychoactives (by type)
* Meat (by type)
* Dairy
* Gluten
* Nightshades (Tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, eggplant, tobacco)
* Nuts

== Official events ==
The Eyrie has frequent casual and spontaneous gatherings, but also hosts some community events. These events are open to anyone known to the Eyrie household (Most likely anyone reading this, unless you somehow found it spontaneously) unless the event info specifies otherwise.

* '''Seasonal Offerings''' happen roughly every six weeks, on [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wheel_of_the_Year solstices, equinoxes, and cross-quarter days]. The Eyrie holds a gathering and ritual to give thanks to the spirits and powers that bring us together and see us through the year, with food offerings and a small feast afterwards. The ritual is non-sectarian but presented from a polytheist/animist perspective. Anyone attending may participate, or just observe respectfully. Additional food offerings are welcome but not required; talk to Indi for details on what makes a good offering.
* '''[[Glowtide]] Celebrations''' are held sometime in the last few weeks of the year, with two or three events in the days between December 21 and January 1. One of these will include the seasonal offering above, while others are more traditional holiday parties. Food and drink is provided potluck style.
* The '''[[Downwarp Calendar#Holidays|Midrigsnight]]''' gathering is held on the summer solstice, along with that season's offering. This is a large potluck/barbecue gathering with a bonfire.

* We need content! Check the [[Special:WantedPages|Wanted Pages]] and [[:Category:Stubs|Stubs]] lists to see if there's anything you can contribute, and to make sure you use page names that match existing links.
* If you want to create a page about yourself, use your automatically-created user page, accessible by clicking the head icon in the top left and then your name in the menu below.
* Create wiki links with brackets and standard spacing, <nowiki>[[like this]]</nowiki> rather than running words together ("WikiWords"). MediaWiki is built to have wiki links with natural spacing, anything else just introduces extra aliases, usually.
* Use [[Special:Categories|categories]] liberally. If you think it makes sense to have a category that doesn't exist, feel free to create it!
** That being said, try to keep category members to the most-general pages possible. For instance, the [[Neptunian Culture]] page is in [[:Category:Syncosms]], and also has [[:Category:Neptunian Culture|its own category]]. [[Neptune]] and [[Halcyon]] are part of that category, and so should not also be in [[:Category:Syncosms]].

=== Metacosms ===

Io in this instance lies somewhere between the standard (local) [[Orthocosm]], the [[12Fold_Resorts|12Fold]] syncosm, the endocosm of [[User:Emanate|Emanate]], and ostensibly also covalent with the [[Neptunian_Culture|Neptunian]] syncosm. This is not inherently contradictory, just a starting point for inspiration.

=== The Moon ===

The physical form of this moon of [[Jupiter]] is a violent ball of constantly churning tectonic forces and volcanic eruption<ref>*chirp*</ref>. What little atmosphere and heat there is gets blown off by Jupiter's magnetic field continually. Then there's the Flux Tube, a concentration of magnetic field lines that links Io to Jupiter's magnetosphere very directly, and produces a powerful current. Being so close to the gas giant also leads to higher radiation in general. High concentrations of sulphur stain the entire surface with gold, red, orange, white, and black.

In the far-flung posthuman future, those who eventually decided to settle on Io naturally decided to not even bother with being organic, but opted for various designs of artificial bodies hosting uploaded minds or full sapient-intelligence. They also decided that the surface itself was too violent--and more importantly, too beautiful--to attempt any sort of environmental engineering. The surface was unanimously declared a Natural Reserve, and the people took up residence in the skies, tapping the free power surging through the environment.

=== The Plates, The Parks, The Cities ===

Landscapes above Io vary in size and format, but some constants remain true for all of them. Every segment of land, be it city or constructed terrain, resides on a Plate, electromagnetically suspended above the surface. Each generally hexagonal Plate is designed to interlock with other Plates, though many are nomadic, wandering between multiple city-Plates on fixed or random schedules. Plates of all sizes can hold manufacturing and refinery facilities, full sprawling cities, and innumerable 'parks'.

The parks are often naturalistic, but always custom designed and built, often oriented around a geographic feature or architectural structure. Sometimes parks are retired and the plates recycled into new functions, in keeping with Ionian culture's principles of inevitable change. It is considered a high honor to be given the chance to design a new Park plate.

The cities themselves are often decorative, futuristic affairs--but the physical appearance of any given building is usually unembellished, because the true sight of anything on Io is mostly in the virtual. Ionians are comfortable in physical embodiment, but spend a much larger time inhabiting various levels of virtual space. The 'closest' layer to reality is always a simple visual re-skinning of everything around--though there being hundreds or thousands of skins to choose from means that the only thing actually negotiated between them is physical proximity relative to other objects and people.

With no overlay, the dominant color of the cities tends towards blues, greens, purples, and whites, cooler colors chosen to contrast the brilliant warmer hues of the moon's surface.

Maufacturing facilities largely cluster on Plates around the north and south poles, drawing mostly-free power from the Flux Tube, while sending vehicles down to mine the plentiful minerals from the moon's surface. Building materials, body-frames, and machinery are products frequently in-demand, but the vast majority of the production is oriented around smartmatter. Smartmatter is a popular choice for outward cladding of bodyframes and buildings with a host of other uses--a solid but fully configurable form of matter that can mimic many states. Ionians use plenty of it, and export the excess to the rest of the system--it is the one product easy to make everywhere, but made best on Io.

=== Culture ===

Ionians are at home on multiple layers of simulation, often even preferring to blur the lines between virtual and physical. Nearly all entities have some sort of proxy body to traverse the physical spaces as needed, but often people only do this as a formality or if sensory input is desired. People are equally happy traveling as a holoprojection, or appearing solely in the near-real overlay. Some only travel in virtual sims, though it's generally considered bad form to get lost in solipsism and disconnection from the 'real'.

The culture in general is focused on artificiality, roboticism, proxy bodies, cybernetics, individuality (with carefully-mediated group-connection setups as well), and auto-generated intelligences. The latter are minds that form or are created entirely within virtual spaces and digital environments without first having a body or construction in the physical layer. You might call it 'cyberpunk' except it's not all that punk, but a mix of many different cultural expressions. Given the focus on virtual spaces, data, processing and computing that Ionians are proud of, they are very much aware of the inherent pun in the moon's name regarding Input/Output terminology.

A few things can be said for sure. The Postfurry community grew out of the larger {{wp|Furry fandom|Furry community}}, which itself generally defies any sort of generally-accepted concrete definitions. Still, Postfurry shares quite a few features in common with general furry interests, like the anthropomorphized-animal aesthetics, the heavy use of the internet, and a general liberal/queer leaning.

What Postfurry generally adds to the furry aesthetic is more of a focus on the futuristic, the transhuman, and the countercultural. Rather than using imagery of a standard anthropomorphic wolf or tiger, someone involved in Postfurry is more likely to present as a lava-lamp vixen, squid-otter hybrid, or sentient black hole.

The '''Oneiropolis''', as the name suggests, is a city of dream and spirit, an endless abstract metropolis that lightly touches every other urban area in the many worlds. In the Oneiropolis, it's always night, ranging from twilight to tenuous pre-dawn, and it's always urban, though wild spaces can certainly be found, in the style of {{wp|Forest Park (Portland, Oregon)|Portland's Forest Park}}. Architectural styles run from Sumerian ziggurats to megacorp towers, enchanted sequoias to nanobuilt orbitscrapers, anything that someone might look at and think of as urban, and the inhabitants show the same diversity, anyone who thinks of themself as a city-dweller.

Many of the individuals walking are transient, sleeping folks who appear there, wander around, seeing the city as nothing but a backdrop for whatever dream they're having, and fade away upon waking. There are more permanent residents though. Some are born there; any spirit world is going to have resident spirits, after all. Others come in from elsewhere, some finding their way in by a suitably dreamy {{wp|Dérive|dérive}}, others by more intentional pathwalking means.

== Manifestations ==
The Oneiropolis is meant as a flexible, shared setting, and as such has seen use in a number of different other creative works.

=== [[Horn and Ivory]] Stories ===
In [[User:Indi|Indi]]'s fiction, the [[Horn and Ivory #Shapers|Shapers]] can often be found in the Oneiropolis. Shapers are most comfortable in dreams, and the Oneiropolis is to them what cyberspace is to more technologically-minded transhumans; a place to gather, create, and sometimes even move in.

=== [[Postfurry MUCK]] Reification ===
A partial representation of the Oneiropolis can be found on [[Postfurry MUCK|PFMuck]] where it is used for locations that need a bit more grounding than the [[12Fold Resorts]] or raw [[Possibility Space]] provides. For purposes of MUCK navigation, this bit of the Oneiropolis is split into five districts:

* '''The Academy''' of Applied Hierotronics
* '''Horngate Park''' - A rambling forested area, for those who want to escape the steel and concrete.
* '''Liminal Street''' - A downtown district, full of glow and nightlife.
* '''The Squid''' - A maze of twisty little interchanges, all alike, all different, all reclaimed by squatters.
* '''Skycastle Mall''' - Where you can buy anything you've ever dreamed of

Kauko: Fixing interwiki links

Downwarp is one of the six warps of the [[Puzzlebox]], a ruined high-tech metropolis where nothing holds together without effort.

== Environment ==
Downwarp is an arbitrarily large cityscape in a constant state of artistic near-collapse. Inhabitants of Downwarp have the same post-mortality, post-scarcity lifestyle that the Puzzlebox always provides, but in their case, it mainly frees them up to do their best job of scavenging out a satisfying lifestyle in a rather challenging environment.

Downwarp also features a few other differences from the standard baseline Puzzlebox reality that help add that extra bit of challenge. Most obviously, entropy seems to run a bit stronger (or at least stranger) in Downwarp compared to other areas. The city itself seems far more run down than anywhere else in the 'Box, and despite the theoretical infinite resources and capabilities of the residents, it stays that way. It seems that the bigger and more elaborate a structure is, the more likely it is to quickly wear down to a state of disrepair, often still useful for some purpose, but never the original intention.

The same effect also effects the instantiator system in Downwarp; while the instantiator is never particularly effective at creating complex or well-built objects, on Downwarp it seems to be able to create little else than raw materials; its maximum resolution is around one centimeter, so it can create bulk iron or silicon or food paste, anything more elaborate must either be crafted or salvaged.

In fact, Downwarp seems to be a never-ending font of useful salvage. It seems that no matter how many times a particular abandoned building or collapsed freeway has been searched, there’s always a chance that someone will find something interesting by scrounging further, though it may need some repair work; it <em>is</em> salvage, after all. By the same token, there's no guarantee any person will find something that meets their immediate needs, so swap meets and flea markets are constant, and alway full of fascinating finds. Outwarp researchers have suggested that the salvage economy is actually secretly enabled by the instantiation system, creating the salvage unseen and placing it to be found. Downwarpers don't usually see it that way, but then again the common sentiment to explain good salvage is "The City provides."

== Sociology ==
The ambient ontological pressure that keeps Downwarp from building itself up into a bustling metropolis works on social structures as much as physical ones. Large group dynamics don't hold together, but the locals seem quite content to avoid them anyway, instead congregating in small tribes and intentional families, usually with no more than a few dozen members. A tribe will settle down in a particular city block or high-rise floor, building it up according to their own personal aesthetics and letting new members come and go as mood and ideology dictate.

As such, Downwarp factions tend to be fairly loosely affiliated, existing more as general belief systems than organized movements. The two most well-known are the [[Gridshamans]], urban mystics who believe that everything, natural or constructed, is tied together in a network of willfull energy, and the [[Eistenstimmen]], strong-willed workers devoted to improving their bodies as much as their collectives need, to help them bear the burden of sustaining them.

=== Inhabitants ===
* [[Arc-Light]]
* [[Groove-Weld]]
* [[Nikolai]]
* [[Torque]]

== Inspiration ==
* '''Writing'''
** {{wp|Bone Dance}}, by Emma Bull - One of the best syntheses of magic and technology ever to have been given the label urban fantasy, it's about the search for identity in a ruined future Minneapolis where the {{wp|Loa|Lwa}} are just as real as the body-hopping psychics.
** [https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/593789.The_City_Not_Long_After The City, Not Long After], by Pat Murphy - Post-plague urban collapse narrative involving San Francisco housing a collective of dreamers and artists, defending it against militaristic invaders via creative and surreal means.
* '''Music'''
** {{wp|Burial (musician)|Burial}} - Dark as a city-wide blackout, but with rich and complex layers of bass and modified vocal samples that are never boring to listen to. It's been called dubstep, but it's like no other dubstep you've ever heard.
** {{wp|The KLF}} - Down-and-dirty situationist house musicians who'd rather burn a million pounds on a beach than let success make them boring.
** {{wp|The Shamen}} - Perhaps no one was more serious about making rave culture into a spiritual experience. And "Techno-tribal, positively primal, shamanic anarchistic archaic revival"? That might as well be Downwarp's motto.
** {{wp|Dead Cities (album)|Dead Cities}} by {{wp|The Future Sound of London|Future Sound of London}} - More than most of FSOL's catalog, this album's pretty close to Downwarp's slightly grungier and ruinous side. Starts out a little more agressive, but fades into more ambient work towards the latter half.

Kauko: /* Mindblindness */

'''Mindlink''' is the name of a [[Neptunian]] technology for direct thought communication, as well as the communications and social structures enabled by that technology. Possession of a mindlink is considered to be almost synonymous with membership in Neptunian culture, and the technology has been adapted to work seamlessly across a wide variety of substrates (biological and otherwise) and neurotypes.

Standard mindlink operations function on a sub-verbal level; it enables the transmission of concepts and emotions rather than words and images. There’s no technical reason the latter can’t be done too, but there’s little point, as standard infosphere connections cover that sort of communication; the mindlink is intended to be a more intimate sort of sharing. A mindlink user can read others without messages being specfically sent, but only ‘front of mind’ thoughts are available; someone’s current preoccupations, their emotional state, and so on. Neptunians generally have this level of awareness of most other mindlink-enabled individuals within about 10 meters, and a good emotional feel of everyone reaching out to nearly 100 meters. The more individuals are around, the more this allows a sort of gestalt synchronization, which keeps crowds from being particularly overwhelming. For particularly close relationships, however, the link can be extended further, with cross-Halcyon connections commonly maintained in long-distance relationship.

== Government ==

The network effects of the mindlink actually extend much further. Since the emotional link is inherently partially transitive, the 100-meter link, combined with the sparse long jumps essentially unifies the emotional undercurrent of almost all Halcyonians, almost all the time. This effect also forms the basis of what passes for government on Neptunian worlds. Local, regional, and planetwide measures are presented via mass media (conventional or mindlink) and the 'gut feeling' of the populace serves to decide if and how they will be adopted.

== Mindblindness ==

Because the mindlink constantly enmeshes Neptunains in each others' emotional states, many of them never really learn to the particulars of physical non-verbal communication. In fact, when off-world themselves, outside their natural mindlinked environment, many Neptunians can come off as somewhat autistic. It’s difficult for one to develop good {{wp|theory of mind}} skills when one has access to the actual facts of others’ minds over the mindlink. Compounding this is their general openness and sensitivity; a Neptunian can see anything and everything as interesting or important, and when things don’t fit the milieu they’re acclimated to, they can become overwhelmed.

This apparent cluelessness belies the deeply empathetic nature of Neptunain psychology; when a missed cue or faux pas is pointed out, the offworld Neptunian will often fall all over emself to apologize and correct the error. This happens often enough that some eventually develop an almost-absurd habit of pre-emptive “I’m sorry!” responses to any awkward situations. Regardless, however, with enough exposure and effort, Neptunians can learn the usual rules of offworld social interaction, it just doesn’t come as naturally as it might to some others.

This issue is particularly notable in Neptunian toyfolk, whose mind templates are based on the native standard, with a mindlink built into their internals. However, as toys, they are often bought or built to be taken home to some other locale. Like any other Neptunian, they can learn, and are still able to usually fulfill their main aims of cuddliness and usefulness even when they act strange sometimes. A new owner or playmate is advised to simply be patient and comforting, and, if necessary, firmly explain the right approach, to help the toy learn. A private space mimicking a standard Neptunian environment (lots of glow and color and soft things) is often helpful, as is the presence of other Neptunian toys.

Kauko:

{{TOC right}}
The Puzzlebox is an arbitrarily large, arbitrarily old, arbitrarily weird region of the Mess, an even larger, older, but rather less weird transhuman habitat. Most of the Mess is et up as a fairly mundane, unchallenging, comfortable existence for any sentient, offering freedom from death and want.

The Puzzlebox has the same conveniences overall; no one need die or go homeless or hungry, but unlike the rest of the Mess, it's divided into vastly different areas, each one seeming to have its own very forceful personality. Each of these six Warps, as they're called, has slightly different rules of reality from each other and the rest of the universe, that support their own particular ways of life. Given its oddness by the general standards of the surrounding habitat, most Mess denizens look at the Puzzlebox as down-rent property, generally to be avoided.

However, another thing that makes the Puzzlebox different is that it seems to have a will of its own, and a penchant for collecting. Strange immigrants are common there, from far-flung areas of the Mess and from other realities entirely. Many of them aren't even sure how they got there. In general, there's nothing keeping them from leaving again, but those that the Puzzlebox chooses seem to tend to find a place there, preferring it to wherever they came from.

== The Warps ==
The Puzzlebox is divided into six warps, three pairs, each named after a flavor of quark. Each warp seems to be as big as it needs to be, but borders between them can be found as well, the particular reality of one warp bleeding into another in the far reaches. There are rumors of other places too, specific junctions between two or even three warps, but details on these are sketchy at best.

[[Warp Metaphysics|There are countless ways to divide and characterize the six warps]], the following listing simply uses the masses of the corresponding quarks to provide an ordering.

* [[Downwarp]] - A cyberpunkish urban ruin filled with wild-eyed artists and mystics.
* [[Upwarp]] - A clinical technocratic society devoted to humanistic science and rationalism.
* [[Strangewarp]] - A twisted mirror-image of an elegant city, trapped in eternal night, full of nasty crawly things that can corrupt body and mind.
* [[Charmwarp]] - A fantasyland of bright colors, whimsical creatures, and wide-eyed innocence.
* [[Bottomwarp]] - An endless street festival where shame (and clothing) are virtually unknown, and where kinky behavior and hippie-ish values predominate.
* [[Topwarp]] - Am aristocratic land of palaces and estates, whose inhabitants are devoted to craftsmanship and personal honor.

== Life in the Puzzlebox ==
As a transhuman habitat, the Puzzlebox provides a number of conveniences. There's the Backup System, which constantly scans inhabitants' bodies and minds and, if they suffer fatal physical damage, restores them intact at a nearby safe location. There's also the Instantiator, which allows inhabitants to create simple object, including anything needed for sustenance and shelter, with only a thought. Strangest of all, there's the Consent Maintenance System, which seems to prevent (or at least mitigate) anything happening to someone that they don't (by some definition) 'want'.

<span style="color: purple">From an out-of-character perspective, this all basically means that MUCK rules are physical laws there; you can't die (unless you want to), you can make whatever you want as long as you spend the mental effort, and usually you're the one who determines what happens to you, via your own poses.</span>

These make physical combat essentially superfluous (or at least clearly recreational), but that doesn't make the Puzzlebox free of conflict entirely. Instead, the way that Puzzlebox inhabitants contend is through memetics and propaganda, what is sometimes called 'artwar'. Over Puzzlebox's long history, factions have formed, along ideological and aesthetic lines, and they're always vying with each other to win converts and influence. New inhabitants are particuarly prized; convincing someone from somewhere else that your way of life is the right one brings with it a lot of prestige.

=== Current Events ===
Once, the warps were all connected via the [[Transit Nexus]] and its Magic Mirror, but at some point in the relatively recent past, something changed. The greater Genius Loci of the Puzzlebox seems to have changed, or simply lost interest; not much has happened, and the connections between Warps, and in and out of the Puzzlebox itself, have broken down, leaving some inhabitants stranded outwarp or outbox, and the rest a bit worried about whether the backup system or the instantiator will be next to fail.

More recently, contact has been made between [[Downwarp]] and the [[Oneiropolis]], allowing a bit of travel between that warp and other [[valences]]. Further experimentation inside Downwarp has given some hints that they may be able to re-establish contact with other places, as long as an inhabitant from each other warp can be found to help lead the way back.

=== Factions ===
This is a necessarily incomplete list; factions form and fragment constant, and there's plenty of disagreement even within factions as to who belongs and who doesn't.

* [[Bonobians]]
* [[Bubbledolls]]
* [[Eisenstimmen]]
* [[Gridshamans]]
* [[Modulari]]
* [[Neovictorians]]
* [[Strange Medical Corps]]

== Other Places ==
Puzzlebox is generally synonymous with the Warps, but there are always edge cases. These locations are undeniably inside the Puzzlebox, but also just as clearly don't belong to any particular warp.

* [[Cube Tree Plaza]]
* [[Transit Nexus]]
* [[The Museum]]

== Description ==
The Build-A-Raver warehouse exemplifies Neptune's primary industries; party-throwing and toy-making. Kiosks at each corner of the room are available to order up custom toy companions of the classic Neptunian style: cuddly fur, slick plastic, and bright colors. Racks of clothing and other accessories are set up nearby for dress-up play. The floor is always busy; new dancers seem to come in constantly, both from those booths and the central moon-pool that connects the place to Neptune's seas. Decoration is provided by the elaborate and colorful toyworks that surround the dance floor, rainbow dyes, billows of sparkly stuffing, and more fly through tubes on their way to make the next batch of happy plush ravers.
